A week before Eid Al-Fitr or Hari Raya Aidilfitri, I had the amazing opportunity to provide play-by-play commentary for the Republic of Gamers Champions Cup Grand Finals at the Sunway Pyramid Ice Skating Rink at Sunway Pyramid Mall!
Well, I think first thing that came to mind was how awesome the setup was, the screen itself was huge and the crowd was fantastic, I personally loved how the crowd reacted to each and every play that was displayed by the two finalist teams of Missing in Action (MIA) and Raiding Squad (RS)
Crowd presence was spectacular and the chemistry and light hearted banter between me and The Chris Man (Singaporean League of Legends Shoutcaster) managed to garner a few laughs from the crowd which demographically was the most diverse I have seen.
I saw kids, teens, young adults and parents in Teemo hats! It made me smile and hopeful towards the future of Malaysian eSports in general!
Competition wise, Missing in Action showed a very dominant run against Raiding Squad, both teams were undefeated and had a clean run towards the Grand Finals. A grand prize of RM 5000 and gaming laptops from ASUS Republic of Gamers was on the line and both teams showed it as they walked up on stage with determination!
Gameplay wise we saw some amazing macro and micro mechanics coming in from the side of both teams, rotations and objective controls were very concise and clear and it seemed that Missing in Action would continue to dictate the overall pacing of the games which were scheduled for Best of 5's. Although there were some planning malfunctions and inefficient rotations coming in from Missing in Action in some of the important team skirmishes in Games 2 & 4, those mistakes were something Raiding Squad failed to capitalize on.
All in all, Missing in Action proved the more dominant team and effectively smashed Raiding Squad 3-1 out of 5 games and that was all she wrote!
big congrats to Missing in Action for the win!
