Abang Dzulqarnaen is like any other Malaysian; an all round chilled guy. Well, this unassumingman possesses knowledge of locks, chokes, sweeps and transitions. Brazilian JiuJitsu is the name of the game and with Copa Da Malasia 2 in a few more days I thought I would, for my first ever segment of Hide Your Neck; feature Abang Dzulqarnaen who will compete against David Hulett in the SUPERFIGHT segment of Copa Da Malasia 2.

Abang Dzulqarnaen is a brown belt which he received from Professor Marcos Escobar of Marcos Escobar Brazilian Jiujitsu Academy at the end of 2014 where he trained for nearly a decade. He is a silver medalist in Pan Asian Blue Belt Gi and ADCC Trails Blue Belt Gi; among other prestigious awards.
Although not representing MEBJJ and flying his own flag as an unrepresented competitor, Abang states that he is on good terms with MEBJJ and continues to train with his former teammates.

When asked about his decision to leave MEBJJ he said ; ”No doubt that MEBJJ made me who I am today and I can never be anything else but grateful, there were certain restrictions that I disagreed with and by that extension felt that something needed to be done,”
Training for Abang was an easy thing to accomplish being very passionate about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Those long hours payed off indeed. Although the physical aspect of the training was a breeze. Preparations to whom he would face in Copa Da Malasia 2 proved challenging.
Names like ONE Championship fighter Major Overall and Samir Mrabet (among other competitors) were potential opponents but did not pan out due to injury and nonavailability.
With less than a month before the competition David Hulett answers the call to the SUPERFIGHT segment of Copa Da Malasia 2. Both competitors are not strangers to one another as they have worked together before in preparing Darren Low for his title defense as the Heavyweight Champion in the Malaysian Invasion last year.
When asked about his thoughts on David Hulett as an opponent, he said;
“Dave and I are friends and this is more of a friendly fight for me, Dave is a nice guy and a very high level competitor. His background speaks for itself, I also saw him in his fight against Guilherme Araujo in the previous Copa. It’s a tough fight for me and his leg lock game is crazy! I intend to go in there and implement my game plan and also put on a show!”
His closing words were both of strong bonds that can only be found on the mats and of hope towards reaching out to people by way of exposing them to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
“My old MEBJJ team, me moving on, had to be done, I wish them nothing but best from those without belts to those with the highest awarded belts and thanks for all the encouragement and support, I want to thank everyone at Monash Grappling Club for believing in me and learning alongside me and also the followers of the #ForTheArt movement who just wanna train without worrying about fees and just build bonds and learn together. Fightwearhouz as well for their continued support and lastly, my pillar of support none other than my loving girlfriend who has been there for me through the rough patches,”

There you have it! From speaking to this guy, you know that he just wants to spread the word of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Passionate minds make for scary competitors I believe.
So come on and check him out in the SUPERFIGHT segment of Copa Da Malasia 2!
